Oh noes, Hangover

Posted by Heidi

This was prolly our first morning that was hard to get up, due to the excess beers and our first-ever sampling of buckets the previous night, and hot humid weather at 9am is not very conducive to hangovers. Ryan and I were up and about, not too worse for wear fortunately, and got a knock at the door from Danae, who’s facial expression and body language was absolutely priceless. If only my camera had been in hand at that moment. Anyway we all went down for our breakfast, some feeling better than others, and some like Chris with mismatched thongs following the previous night’s events.

We decided we’d head to Phi Phi Ley and Maya Bay (where “the Beach” was filmed) later in the day, so that we could avoid the crowds and rehydrate ourselves before getting on a dodgy little long tail boat again. We lay in the pool for a couple of hours until we were nicely pruned, then gathered our strength for the day’s excursion. We stopped off at the place next door to where we’d gotten the awesome pad thai the day before, so we could have lunch before going to Phi Phi Ley. Chris, Ryan and I opted for pad thais, and Danae got some mama noodles. Obviously Danae was the smart one of the day, coz shortly after, Chris, Ryan and I were feeling pretty ill. So we decided to put off our excursion until the next day, and just have an easy one instead.

Ryan and I went back to the safety of the air-con hotel and watched Charlie’s Angels II while we waited for the tainted pad thai to give us its worst. But in an hour or so we were fine and went for a walk along both sides of the isthmus of Koh Phi Phi. It really is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen, and it’s recovery from the effects of the tsunami is amazing.

Meanwhile Chris and Danae had gone for a long walk to Longbeach where they went snorkelling and laid about on the beach.

That evening we unsurprisingly decided to have a quiet one, and following the pad thai incident earlier in the day, deviated from Thai food for the first time on the trip and had Italian. And it was damn fine too! Ryan had a pasta carbonara and the rest of us shared 3 yummy pizzas (they even put bananas on their pizza too!). We bought a pirated DVD for 100 baht on the way home – Blades of Glory, an as-yet unreleased Will Ferrell movie and watched it on the laptop at the hotel. We laughed a lot then went to bed.
