To Phuket take 2

Posted by Ryan

After the complimentary tiny breakfast at the restaurant near our hotel we went to Chiang Mai airport or what seemed like our home away from home for a second time. Today would be our day as finally we were boarded a plane to Phuket. Chris nearly forgot his boarding pass, but luckily I handed it back to him. About 2 hours later on the Thai Air flight we touched down in Phuket Airport with a lot less drama than previous flights.

Chris went to organise some transport to Phang Nga town, but was swindled by the fast talking woman at the airport counter into going somewhere else (Chris note: pfft, everyone agreed on staying at this place). The place was a really nice, 4 star hotel at Nai Thong beach, but as we found out later it was nigh impossible to get transport out of the place without having to mortgage or donate a kidney.

We went down to the beach soon after checking in. It was picturesque and there was even a small bodysurf-able break. We pretty much had the whole beach to ourselves. The hotel was very beautiful and had a massive pool with a bar in it. We were in there and caining beers and cocktails in no time. The girls had some cocktails called “spark” which were tasty and banana flavoured. We quickly racked up a bar bill that was the same price as one night’s accommodation so we decided to go elsewhere.

We went to some restaurant for dinner owned by a German dude that was touting it as voted one of the best in Phuket. It seemed about the same quality as most other places, just 5 times more expensive. We learnt 2 things this day, don’t listen to any travel advice from the airport and don’t use any facilities where a European is living off the wages in SE Asia.

Hi gang...have been following the blog and as anyone desk-bound would do, vicariously living through your adventures...hope the snorkelling at ko phi phi was beautiful. Have you been chased by any monkies yet? They chased me at Ko Phi Phi - terrifying!

Thanks for the comments guys, and sorry for the big delay in updates. We have been very busy drinking Changs and coming up with fun times for the blog...
