The Beach

Posted by Ryan

After waking up and caining another complimentary breakfast (I’d really like these if they actually put steam under the steam trays so the bacon wasn’t so goddamn cold.) We went out and got a return longtail to Koh Phi Phi Ley for 1200 THB. The weather could have been a bit better and with a bit of chop around Heidi was getting a bit scared of the boat falling apart. I swear to god you could make a fortune here selling ding repair kits to the longtail boat operators.

We stopped in at a beautiful few coves and took some pictures of some magnificent rock formations jutting out of the water and caves. We were then taken to a little area that the rock formations almost enclosed and there was some good snorkelling to be done. One of our crappy snorkels busted so Heidi and I had to take turns with the good one. The underwater marine life was pretty amazing. Lots of little fish that weren’t afraid to swim within inches of you. There were some bigger, blacker, slower fishies hiding under the coral formations if you dived down about 3-4m that looked like they would provide quite a decent feed.

After swimming around for a while we climbed back into the boat and headed to the beach where the movie entitled “The Beach” was filmed. It was quite beautiful and we had to pay another 200THB to set foot on the beach as it was another “National Park”. Had a quick swim and look around and then high tailed it on the long tail.

Chris really wanted to go cliff jumping and after asking the boat driver a few times the boat driver eventually let us do it on the way back. I was told by the driver in broken English that no one could help us if something were to happen. Anyways disregarding the warning, we climbed up the jagged rocks and proceeded to jump off a 4m high rocky bit. Was a good way to end the boat trip.

Once back on land we had some lunch and went for a walk up to the lookout. About 800 steps later we were sweating messes, but the view was definitely worth it and there was a shop that stocked cornettos at the top.

Later that day we went to Ao Nang via ferry and checked into the Ao Nang villa, uh oh, where’s my passport? Seemed to be back at Koh Phi Phi. Rang Koh Phi Phi hotel a couple of times with the help of the reception at the new place but no luck. Oh well lets get some 100 THB cocktails and beers!
